Methods : We analyzed oxidative damage and cognitive function related indicators and lipid components in serum.

Results : Free fatty acid, lipid peroxidation and total cholesterol concentrations of serum were significantly higher in the aged cognitively impaired elderly than in the normal elderly, but total antioxidant capacity was low.

Conclusions : In order to prevent cognitive impairment of elderly people, it seems necessary to control the lipid peroxidation and total cholesterol concentrations in the serum.
